Special Edition Bar Soap from The Netherlands

These soaps tell a story. Some of you know that I recently traveled to Europe and along my travels we went to visit the homeland of my dad’s side of the family in The Netherlands. It was really special because we tracked down my great-great uncle’s gravesite, but also got to visit the town of the same name as my family: Veenhuizen.

We didn’t plan very well with our time and got there when it was already dark at 4 PM. But we stumbled across a very welcoming looking hotel and decided to ask if we could just have some drinks and dessert. The catch was that our group was 12 people which included my immediate family, my parents, my siblings and their children. The staff at @bitterenzoetveenhuizen were very friendly and accommodating.

My sister mentioned to them about our family name. They were so kind to give us some of the history of the town and property as well as show us some of the things that are made locally by prisoners, a story for another day! The chef brought us an amazing selection of desserts and even gave us a quick tour of the historic property and garden even though it was getting to be late in the evening.

I soon learned that the chef also has a line of soaps that he makes using some of the herbs that he grows in the garden. I had to have some, so I brought some back, thanks to my mom having a little bit of room in her suitcase, so that I could share some of the special soap with you.

We will just have this limited selection until I can figure out how to make regular trips to The Netherlands. 😅
